When he sought to exploit the genetic research of a young [Dr. Eugene Tendro|Octopod], the scientist dubbed him "a shameless scavenger".

It wasn't until much later that Gavin took on the persona of "Scavenger" and set about wearing a high-tech, armored flight suit designed to resemble a scavenging bird. This was done mostly as a response to the appearance of [Spinner], who set about ruining several of Scavenger's evil dealings.

Considering himself a champion of Capitalism rather than a villain exploiting the system, Scavenger has clashed with Spinner on many occasions, and has even funded the creation of a group of villains tasked with destroying the supposedly "anti-corporate" hero.

The license covering these characters essentially states that ANYONE can use them for ANYTHING as long as it meets the following criteria:

# It gives credit to the site/creator.
# It's non-profit. (Exceptions can be made for indie comics if premission is attained beforehand.)
# Others can use your changes if they so choose.

So what exactly can these characters be used for? Well, anything you can imagine so long as it's free. There's no fear of a publisher breathing down your neck if your webcomic, sketch site, etc. becomes successful.

There are purely original characters, plus others based on super-hero "archetypes". The fun-loving arachnid hero, the dark and gritty cloaked vigilante, and more.

!!!Widower (Jason Isaacs)

Early in his career as a crimefighter, Jason Isaacs, otherwise known as [Spinner], was approached by [The Masked Man|Masked Man, The]. Isaacs was told that a disgruntled city worker had placed an explosive device somewhere in [Gemini City], and that the body count would be in the thousands. In return for the information needed to find and disable the bomb, Isaacs begrudgingly agreed to serve the Masked Man.

Once the threat was neutralized, Isaacs found himself transported to [the Darkscape|Darkscape], where a living suit of tarantula-themed armor encased his body. Now driven by the will of the armor, Jason Isaacs became Widower, and was forced to assissinate several organized crime figures within the city.

One mafioso, [Big Baby], escaped Widower's grasp through sheer luck. The extended period taken to track down Big Baby allowed Isaacs the time to break free of the Widower armor's influence long enough to enter a church. Once inside, the hellish outfit smoldered and rotted away, appearing for all intents and purposes to be dead. Jason Isaacs was freed from his stint as <del>Windower,</del><ins>Widower,</ins> and forever earned the ire of the Masked Man.

!!!Widower (Victor Gault)
Formerly a small-time hood with a penchant for covering his victims in "crawlies" to extract information from them, Victor Gault was on the original Widower's hit list.

When Gault was murdered by <del>Windower,</del><ins>Widower,</ins> he found himself transported to the Darkscape along with the other victims. While the others were cast into darkness, never to be seen again, Gault was spared this fate. After wandering the realm long enough to be driven to the brink of insanity, Gault was approached by the Masked Man.

The Masked Man explained that he knew Jason Isaacs would never serve him willingly, and that he had orchestrated the entire ordeal simply to bring a selection of evil souls to his realm. Victor Gault was his chosen one among these souls, and thus he was made to wear the familiar armor of Widower.

Widower now stalks the shadows of Gemini City, occasionally serving the Masked Man's mysterious whims. More often, however, he can be seen simply seeking revenge against Spinner, whose identity he keeps secret in step with the Masked Man's wishes.

The license covering these characters essentially states that ANYONE can use them for ANYTHING as long as it meets the following criteria:

# It gives credit to the site/creator.
# It's non-profit.<ins> (Exceptions can be made for indie comics if premission is attained beforehand.)</ins>

!!Biography
Gunther Birkhoff started off as an all-star student with a mind for science and all the requirements for a sports legend. When he injured his leg during a game, his path was chosen for him. He dedicated himself entirely to scientific studies, but by this time he did not have the background to get into an Ivy League institution.

Gunther would later join the miliatary, excelling just as much there as he had during his education. It was this drive that later lead Gunther to join a team of scientists working on "faster than light" travel. Though Gunther was selected as a 'test subject', the peak of mental and physical fitness, his solutions to several seemingly insurmountable problems got the attention of his comrades.

On the day of the first trail run for this new technology, Gunther suited up in special gear designed to protect him from any possible problems with hyper-speed movement and was subjected to a series of processes. The scientists were disheartened when an explosion nearly destroyed the entire facility, seemingly vaporizing Gunther. In truth, Gunther had merely tried to take a few steps forward, slammed through several machines and the outer wall of the facility, and found himself instantly standing in Osaka, Japan.

Over the following years, Gunther has managed to fully control his speed capabilities. He can not only move faster than imaginable, but also finds himself able to focus his own inner power into a beam that alters the speed of other objects. He focuses this beam from his eyes, as it's generally well-suited for aiming at what he sees... though it's not known if he can only do this with his eyes.

The scientific achievement has yet to be replicated, as much of the devestation accidentally caused during that test run destroyed much of the data aquired. As "The Beam", Gunther uses his uncanny abilities for the good of the United States of America. This is primarily a moral decision on Gunther's part, but also helps keep funding open for the project he set back.

The son of Senator Carl Clint, Nicolas was raised with a strong belief in justice. Carl Clint was well-known for going against the grain and ruffling the feathers of powerful figures. Such was the case when he published "The Blacklist", a list naming several other Senators who had long been allowed to commit wrongdoings that others ignored. Soon after this list was published, however, Carl and his wife, Georgia, were found murdered on their private yacht.

Though the tragedy was blamed on unknown modern-day pirates, Nicolas Clint knew otherwise. Merely sixteen years old, Nicolas had been on the yacht that day. While swimming nearby, he watched as another boat pulled in, listened as an arguement erupted concerning "the list", and was frozen in horror as two gunshots rang out over the open ocean. By the time he boarded the yacht, the other boat was gone and his parents were dead.

Nicolas was smart enough to know that he must never let anyone know he was there at the time of his parents' murder. Instead, he began researching the politicians on his father's list. Going so far as dropping out of school, Nicolas devoted every waking moment to his quest to discover which specific figure had committed the crime.

When it became apparent that he could not discover the perpitrator's identity merely through research, he turned to martial arts training and the like. He knew that any solid answers would have to be wrestled from the hands of his enemies in person.

Years passed before Nicolas considered himself ready to further his quest. Calling himself "Blacklist" and dressing accordingly, he took to shaking up low-level goons in the employ of the political figures he sought. It wasn't long before he worked his way up the ranks and began taking out the figures themselves. Each attack was specifically timed by Blacklist in order to publically catch the victim in the midst of criminal activity.

It was only after Blacklist apprehended the final target that he finally knew the truth. Having infiltrated a police station in order to personally interrogate the politician, Blacklist learned that in fact each of the powerful figures had conspired together to murder his parents. The man was later found alone in the interrogation room having seemingly slashed his own wrists, his confession written with a pen filled by his own blood. Blacklist is wanted for questioning in relation to the suicide, and is believed by some to have actually murdered the victim.

Blacklist now acts as a vigilante in [New Salem], seeking out corrupt officials and occasionally roughing up street thugs.

!!Biography
High-speed adrenaline junkie Mike Turner was a well-known racecar driver until an accident nearly took his life. Mike's vehicle exploded during a pit-stop, killing his pit crew and blinding his wife, who he had met on the circuit and managed his crew.

Though Mike survived, he was badly injured with broken limbs and burns over much of his body. It was at this time that [Scratch], in the guise of a paramedic, approached him.

Scratch offered to return Michael's health in return for his service. Much the God-fearing man, Michael refused outright. It wasn't until his wife, Sarah, sat by his hospital bed that Michael begrudgingly changed his mind. He changed the agreement, asking Scratch return his wife's vision.

The demon was all too happy to agree. Fulfilling his end of the bargain, Scratch then took what he was owed. Michael found himself healing quickly, astounding Doctors as he was ready to check himself out of the facility within days.

Just as miraculous was Sarah's mending. When she first set her eyes on Michael, however, everything changed. The man's eyes now resembled those of a Hellish creature, something he had been completely unaware of until that moment. Seeing no option but to explain everthing, Michael found himself alone as Sarah resented and was disgusted by his offence again God.

With nowhere else to go, Michael took up residence in the illegal chop-shop of [Roach Manzini], a car thief he had fired from his racing team several years prior. There, he now throws himself into his work, creating and fine-tuning incredible vehicles he uses in service of Scratch, hunting down criminals and killers who have also made (and have now broken) deals with the demon.

As Deathracer, Michael cannot perminently die. However, every time he is "killed", he comes back with another new demonic feature. By now, he's sporting talons and razor-like teeth to match the demonic eyes he was first cursed with.

The license covering these characters essentially states that ANYONE can use them for ANYTHING as long as it meets the following criteria:

# It gives credit to the site/creator.
# It's non-profit.

!!Biography
<ins>One of the fabled "Valkyres" of Nordic legend, War Wing fell from grace amongst her peers when she sought to end a particularly bloody and awful battle. This interjection caused her to be forever expelled from Valhalla. Centuries later, she now serves as an expert on ancient artifacts for [The Gray Harbor Museum of History|Gray Harbor]. Little do her coworkers suspect she has first-hand memory relating to most of these 'artifacts'. This occasionally leads to disputes with the know-it-all museum director.</ins>

<ins>Though changing her ways might earn her way back to Valhalla, she is still unable to sit idly by while injustice and death surround her. As "War Wing", she dons the garb of her former life and takes to battling evil. Oddly enough, once again her "coworkers" are ignorant of her true nature, assuming she is yet another costumed crimefighter.</ins>

<del>Coming soon.
----</del><ins>Police Detective and long-time partner of [Theresa Belluci|Lamb], Anthony Ciccione often found himself ignoring the plight of those around him. Though he could clearly see the injustices that slipped through the cracks of the legal system, he felt that the only way to do things was "by the book", lest chaos overtake order.

During a bust one fateful night, both Anthony and Theresa were gunned down by an escaping gang leader. Both Detectives were killed.

Finding themselves once again side-by-side, the two were approached by what appeared to be an Angel of Death. This being explained that while Theresa had too often subverted the "laws of man" to satisfy her own guilt, Anthony had too often turned away from those suffering because of those same laws.

The being then informed the duo that one of them was to be sent to the Kingdom, while the other would be doomed to the Pit. Exactly which soul was destined for where... was left unspoken.

The alternative presented was for the two to return to Earth and make amends for their respective errors. After an unknown period, they would then be called upon to give witness as to whether the human race deserved an upcoming event of "punishment"... or "mercy".

There was, naturally, little debate. The two returned to their lives, never knowing which one among them was doomed and which had been saved. Now, they "live in each other's shoes" as Theresa tries to show more respect for mankind's laws, and Anthony struggles to show compassion to even the lowliest criminal "scum".

They do so as Wolf & [Lamb], one of many crimefighting groups, blending seamlessly into a world of super-humans. Little does anyone suspect that these two may someday sit in judgement of the world...----</ins>

!!Biography
Spartan Cerberus is the nigh-immortal son of the mythological figures of Pluoton (AKA Hades, Pluto, etc.) and Persephone. His name is derived from the Spartans of Rome, who adopted Greek figures as their own, and Cerberus, Pluoton's long-serving and faithful three-headed canine. The latter inspired the theme of Spartan's battle garb, with a bestial dog's head on either of his shoulder pads.

Spartan is quick to anger and even quicker to "prove" his mettle. He takes almost any given slight as a challenge to do battle. He is the current ruler of Hades, a Hell-like realm that is not the final respting place of the damned. Rather it is an infernal realm of Hellish creatures that somewhat mimics the world of the living with cities, customs, a hierarchy, etc. It is Spartan's charge to protect the realm and its inhabitants, while ensuring the flow of "negative power" remains balanced. This duty usually comes into play when a great evil in the mortal realm begins to upset the balance.

For many centuries, Spartan simply killed whatever evildoer crossed his path. Usually this was accomplished by striking them with his staff. A simple rap on the head instantly kills a man. However, once he came to understand and accept the ways of the [Allied Union of Heroes] during World War II, he put aside his murderous ways. Most of them, anyway.

!!Biography
The famous "Millionare Detective" of [Golden Heights], Midas Wellby was an industrialist who was said to have never made a bad deal in his life. His knack for spotting details in the fine print and picking up on subtle details when sizing up a business associate were legendary.

It wasn't until late in his life that he began applying these skills to the world of solving crimes. With a nearly unlimited bank account (at the time) of a few million dollars, Midas was a powerful and well-placed force of justice.

Midas was fond of <del>gimmicks,</del><ins>gimicks,</ins> and has a few gadgets designed for his own use. This included a strange magnifying glass with several seemingly impossible built-in features. It was said that he could actually see a man's soul through that lense, though this was never validated and seems a bit beyond even his means.

Midas was instrumental in stopping several repeat criminals, such as [Dicky Dodge] and [The Rocking Horse|Rocking Horse, The]. His greatest battle came very late in his career, when he and [Phantom Cane] came to blows atop a building that was demolished beneath their feet. Neither man was found in the debris. Some say that Midas was barely rescured by his hovering car, driven by long-time manservant [Pluck McMoxie], after which he retired from crime fighting.

The license covering these characters essentially states that ANYONE can use them for ANYTHING as long as it meets the following criteria:

# It gives credit to the site/creator.
# It's non-profit.

John Mountainview grew up on a Native American reservation just outside of [Port City]. As a teen he would often sneak into the city in order to purchase crime novels.

His clandestine trips wouldn't be the only disappointments to his elders, however, as he later branched out into studying books of the occult. Combining his ancestors' magic with that of the mystical tomes he studied, he amassed a wide array of supernatural abilities.

Now, as Detective Dark, he lives and works in Port City as a Private Investigator. His clientele mostly consists of average folks who need someone "special" to handle a hard case. On occasion, however, Detective Dark does find himself at odds with the most powerful of otherworldly foes.

Detective Dark possesses and unknown number of abilities, and very rarely shows them to others, preferring to use them when alone. These abilities include seeing past and future events where he is physically standing, seeing large distances (through solid objects) provided he knows where exactly he's looking for something, and literally seeing deception for what it is, like a liar's mouth full of manure or a murderer's spotless clothes covered in blood.

!!Biography
!!!Lord Haw-Haw I (Ernst Schmidt)
During World War II, several Nazi radio transmissions ridiculed Allied forces. A handful of these abusive persons mocked the British by impersonating the accent and acting as if all Brits were foolish and amoral. These propaganda personalities were collectively dubbed "Lord Haw-Haw."

After the war, several of the "Lord Haw-Haws" were of course brought to trial and ultimately executed or imprisoned. One of their rank, Ernst Schmidt, met a different fate.

Having been taken prisoner by a British batallion while attempting to flee Germany, Ernst overheard a British General saying he would "make Haw-Haw beg forgiveness and kiss the Union Jack."

Already expecting execution, Ernst found the means to cut the lips from his own face as a final act of defiance and ridicule against his captors. Thusly, he was left with a perminent grin of bare, bloodied teeth.

Upon retrieving Ernst, a young soldier was shocked and horrified by the crazed, grinning visage of the prisoner. In this moment of stunned incapacity, Ernst was able to overcome the soldier and escape into darkness.

Ernst resurfaced soon after, having forced a tailor to construct a garish Nazi uniform for him. Now touting himself as "THE" Lord Haw-Haw, Ernst gradually amassed a small following of underground Nazi supporters and masterminded several successful attacks against occupying Allied soldiers.

This went on for several years, until Lord Haw-Haw ran afoul of [True Blue] and [The Allied Union of Heroes|Allied Union of Heroes]. During this encounter, Lord Haw-Haw attempted to destroy a crucial bridge and was killed by one of his own charges.

!!!Lord Haw-Haw II (Butch Rathbone)
Controversial radio personality Butch Rathbone was the highest-rated talk show celebrity for many years. His strong stance against crime, drugs, gun control, and social agendas earned him the ire, and admiration, of millions.

After amassing a fortune and conquering almost every form of media, Butch became addicted to REJX, a designer drug that gives users an immense sense of euphoria and stifles all sense of physical pain.

As Butch's addiction grew, he lost his ability to conceal it. As soon as news broke of his REJX usage, Butch found himself outed as one of the most well-known hypocrites in the world. It wasn't long, however, before he set about publically apologizing and effectively preserving his career through a series of highly-paid public appearances to speak on the evils of a drug that could taint even a "saint" like himself.

While leaving the radio station one night, Butch was approached by a disillusioned listener who had formerly idolized him. When Butch tried to brush the disgruntled man off, he pulled a knife. Though the listener insisted he only wanted Butch to apologize to him personally, things quickly escalated.

In the ensuing scuffle, several posessions fell from Butch's briefcase, including glass vial of REJX. The fact that Butch was still using enraged the listener. The man overpowered Butch and cut his lips off, so that he could "never lie again."

The following police investigation and media coverage revealed Butch's ongoing drug use, and his newly deformed face caused his detractors to cruelly dub him "the new Lord Haw-Haw."

With his career gone, his elaborate facade ruined, and his grip on reality gradually loosening, Butch took to calling himself Lord Haw-Haw as well. His insane rants and erratic public behavior grew to alarming levels, eventually culminating in his current status as an outright villain.

Lord Haw-Haw now resurfaces from time to time, forcably injecting others with REJX serum via a dart gun. This usually includes well-known celebrities or politicians whose actions he disagrees with. He is also not above the occasional scheme against various costumed heroes.

!!Biography
Promising young starlet Catherine Doyle made a name for herself in several low-budget slasher films. Dubbed Hollywoods "newest scream queen," her ego quickly began to grow along with her reputation.

Catherine's behavior included walking off of sets, demanding very specific luxuries, and insisting on changes to various scripts. It was this diva attitude that drove her latest co-stars to dream up a cruel prank to play on her.

The act took place during a scene in which Catherine was to be buried alive in a coffin with its own air supply. After the final take, a bribed crew member who was supposed to unearth the actress conveniently "forgot" to do the job.

Several hours later, a handful of Catherine's fellow actors returned to the scene to exhume the coffin. Instead, they discovered a sink hole. Though they feared that the coffin had caved in, they instead found the item had disappeared completely.

None of those involved with the prank spoke of or reported the incident. However, the act haunted them - literally - when the coffin in question began to appear in various places the perpitrators resided. This culminated in all of the involved parties meeting to decide what exactly to do about the haunting.

During this meeting, the coffin once again appeared while everyone's attention had been diverted. Catherine Doyle emerged from the box, her wide, frozen eyes now blood red and her long, luxurious hair now bone white.

As the stunned onlookers remained frozen in fear, Catherine uttered something in a hushed tone: "Do you know the [man in the devil's mask|Masked Man, The]? He offered me the role of a lifetime." She then let out an ear-splitting scream that drove the others to tear themselves apart in fear, then turn on each other.

Now known simply as Scream Queen, she haunts various locations associated with her former life, taking vengeance on others for even the slightest transgressions. This has included actresses cast in parts she formerly held, the agent who placed her on her last ill-fated film, and more.

The license covering these characters essentially states that ANYONE can use them for ANYTHING as long as it meets the following criteria:

# It gives credit to the site/creator.
# It's non-profit.

!!Biography
With nerves of steel and an adventurer's spirit, X. Marx DeSpot sought out undiscovered lands and hidden treasures that didn't exist.

To most, X. Marx might have seemed like a harmless older gentleman with a quick wit and a noble demeanor. However, if you happened to be one of the "Savage Natives" or "Murderous Pirates" he encoutered on his imaginary journeys, you might have taken a different view altogether.

X. Marx lived in a world of his own creation, where cobblestone streets were hunks of gold and office buildings were forgotten pyramids. The contents of these buildings were seen as long lost treasures that he needed to be retrieved at all costs. A stapler was a forbidden idol. A folding chair was a jewelled throne. The frightened employees were undead warriors who needed to be dispatched.

Since first attempting to steal a statue at the center of town, referring to the likeness of Andrew Jackson as "Osirus", X. Marx was a thorn in the side of [Golden Heights] Police. He always seemed to follow mysterious maps that directed him straight to the most dangerous places a lunatic could show up.

On rare occasions, X. Marx appeared in entirely different personas, all with the same theme of treasure seeking.

It wasn't until his arrest and the discovery of his hideout that authorities found he had been drawing the "ancient treasure maps" himself. He turned out to be a cartographer with a worsening case of dementia, aggrivated by his treasured pipe that happened to contain heavy amounts of lead.

!!Biography
Childhood friend of [Jason Isaacs|Spinner] and low-level technological genius Ulysses Fester always relied on the work of others to carry him through life. Like Jason, he too sought a career in technology, but did so more at the behest of his father and Graytech CEO, Grayson Fester.

When Ulysses finally decided to make his own way in the world, he assisted Jason Isaacs in the creation of IsaacWeb. Though his participation was helpful, Ulysses often overstated his importance and eventually ran afoul of Jason when claiming undue credit.

Eager to smooth things over, Ulysses used his relationship with his father to copy important documents from Graytech headquarters. He then turned the documents over to Jason. Jason faced a moral dillema. Would he turn his friend in for the theft, or simply destroy the documents? After much soul-searching, Jason decided to destroy the copies and fired Ulysses, who believed Jason used the information anyway.

Ulysses fell into a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol, fueled mostly by the <del>low-level</del><ins>petty</ins> criminals<ins> and thugs</ins> he called an entourage. It wasn't until the supposed death of his father, while confronting [Spinner], that Ulysses converted his depression into rage.

Recalling an old urban legend from his school days with Jason, Ulysses created a costume mimicing "The Headless Hangman". The legend stated that a successful witch hunter had been cursed from the gallows by a witch he was about to hang. She cursed him to also "die by hanging".

As the legend went, the witch hunter so believed in the curse that he had his own head cut off. Since he was cursed to only die by hanging, this did not kill him. He hid his own head, and sent his beheaded body to murder the witch's family as retribution. Still cursed to hang, the witch hunter knew that he would never be safe from death unless he kept his own head hidden. He replaced the missing body part with a perpetually boiling cauldron and is said to still walk the Earth to this day.

As The Headless Hangman, Ulysses persicutes both Jason Isaacs and his alter-ego Spinner, unaware that the two are one and the same.

Perhaps more unbelievable, however, is the fact that The Headless Hangman and Gray Ghoul have teamed up on several occasions, completely ignorant of the fact they are father and son.
